The PARADE (Programme de protection déployAble modulaiRe Anti-DronEs) program develops a modular, multi-mission counter-drone system by Thales and CS Group to detect, classify, and neutralize micro- and mini-drones (100g-25kg), providing 360° protection for sensitive sites, military deployments abroad, public events like the 2023 Rugby World Cup and 2024 Olympics, and critical infrastructure. Launched via a DGA competitive tender in 2021 with contract notification around 2022, it procured an initial six systems delivered to the DGA by early 2024 despite minor delays and performance issues in exercises; systems were deployed for the Paris Olympics and are now operational, complementing other French counter-UAS like MILAD and integrating with laser developments under L2AD. From a defense-intelligence perspective, PARADE enhances force protection against proliferating low-cost drone threats in hybrid warfare, enables rapid deployability for expeditionary operations, and strengthens homeland security for mass events, with potential scalability to 50 units.
