Also known as: LMAMS
The Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System (LMAMS) is the US Army's requirement for a small, man-portable loitering munition that soldiers launch to strike enemy combatants they cannot see, with a wave-off capability to divert the attack and limit collateral damage. AeroVironment won the original LMAMS contract with Switchblade in 2011. In April 2020 the Army's Tactical Aviation and Ground Munitions project office awarded AeroVironment a Switchblade contract worth up to $146 million, with $76 million funded for the first year through a Joint Urgent Operational Need Statement and two options running to April 2023. AeroVironment announced a further two-year option worth about $45 million for Switchblade 300 under the contract in April 2021.
