AeroVironment, also branded AV, is a U.S. defense technology supplier headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Its portfolio includes uncrewed systems, precision-strike weapons and counter-UAS technologies. Switchblade loitering munitions are supported by documented U.S. Army delivery orders rather than only announced development plans.
In February 2025, AV announced a $288 million Switchblade delivery order under the Army's Lethal Unmanned Systems requirement, distinguishing that order from the associated $990 million contract ceiling. A separate October 2024 announcement identified a $54.9 million production order and support for allied partners including Lithuania, Romania and Sweden.
AV completed its acquisition of BlueHalo on 1 May 2025, broadening its activities in counter-UAS, space, cyber and directed energy. The combined company described radio-frequency, directed-energy and kinetic defeat technologies alongside autonomy, mission software and command-and-control systems.
