The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is an executive department of the U.S. federal government responsible for coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the United States Armed Forces. Headquartered at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, its mission is to provide the military forces needed to deter war and ensure the nation's security. It oversees the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, and related defense capabilities, including aerospace and advanced technologies.
