PESCO Maritime Unmanned Anti-Submarine System (MUSAS)

MUSAS is a PESCO project coordinated by Portugal, with France, Spain and Sweden as members and Belgium, Germany, Greece and Italy as observers, to develop a command, control and communications service architecture that lets air, surface and underwater autonomous vehicles work together in anti-submarine warfare. Its main product is a C3 module with a mission system and interoperability layer, and a secondary aim is to integrate sensors, combat management systems and weapons. The project was established in November 2019, entered execution in 2024 and has a planned completion year of 2026. By May 2026 it had produced a system design and an initial common staff requirement, while the common staff target still awaited member state comments.
