The Australian Department of Defence is the Australian Public Service entity responsible for providing advice, coordination, and program delivery for defence and military policy, supporting the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in defending Australia and its national interests. It oversees key groups such as the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Defence Science and Technology Group, and Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Group, managing acquisition, sustainment, research, and industry engagement in defence capabilities including drones. As a government department, it leads national defence programs like LAND 156 Counter-UAS.
