UK Project Mosquito (RAF LANCA Demonstrator)

Project Mosquito was the Royal Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office's technology demonstrator under the Lightweight Affordable Novel Combat Aircraft (LANCA) concept, meant to show a low-cost uncrewed combat aircraft that could fly alongside Typhoon and F-35. Phase 1 design contracts went to three industry teams in 2019, and in January 2021 the MoD awarded a GBP 30 million, three-year Phase 2 contract to a Spirit AeroSystems Belfast-led team including Northrop Grumman UK to build a prototype for flight tests by the end of 2023. The RAF cancelled the demonstrator in June 2022, saying it would not proceed beyond the design phase.
