Sweden Future Combat Air System Concept Programme (KFS)

KFS (Konceptprogram Framtida Stridsflygsystem) is Sweden's concept programme for fighter capability after the JAS 39 Gripen, run by FMV with the Swedish Armed Forces, FOI, Saab and GKN Aerospace, which studies crewed and uncrewed solutions as a system of systems. The government authorised concept-phase work in July 2023 and December 2024, running to 2030, and FMV has ordered studies, technology development and demonstrators from Saab, most recently about SEK 2.6 billion for 2025 to 2027 in October 2025 and SEK 2.9 billion for 2026 to 2028 in September 2026. A decision in principle on how to replace the Gripen is expected between 2028 and early 2030.
