Germany NNbS SHORAD/Skyranger 30
Use this to quickly assess program maturity and supplier depth.
Germany's Nah- und Nächstbereichsschutz (NNbS) program procures Rheinmetall Skyranger 30 short-range air defense systems to counter evolving drone and aircraft threats across NATO's eastern flank. The initial contract covers 19 systems (1 prototype + 18 production vehicles) on GTK Boxer chassis, with Initial Operating Capability targeted for 2027 and Full Operating Capability by 2029. Germany plans to procure 500-600 total Skyranger 30 systems, making it a cornerstone of multi-layered air defense alongside the DefendAir anti-drone missile system approved in November 2025. The system represents Germany's strategic commitment to strengthen NATO's forward defense posture in the Baltic region and protect critical infrastructure from drone threats.
