Close-in and Short-Range Defense (NNbS) - Skyranger 30 Initial Order

The Nah- und Nächstbereichsschutz (NNbS) - Skyranger 30 Initial Order is a €595 million contract awarded by the German Bundeswehr to Rheinmetall in February 2024 for one prototype and 18 production Skyranger 30 mobile air defence systems mounted on Boxer 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicles. It forms a key component of Germany's short- and very short-range air defence (NNbS) system under the European Sky Shield Initiative, bridging gaps in mobile air defence against drones, helicopters, low-flying aircraft, cruise missiles, and precision-guided munitions using a hybrid turret with 30mm x 173 KCE revolver gun (firing programmable airburst AHEAD ammunition), Stinger surface-to-air missiles, and sensors for autonomous or networked operations.
