Germany HUSAR (LUNA NG)

HUSAR (Hocheffizientes Unbemanntes System zur Aufklärung mittlerer Reichweite) is the Bundeswehr designation for the Rheinmetall LUNA NG reconnaissance drone system, bought for the Army's reconnaissance troops and artillery. After the original manufacturer's insolvency, Rheinmetall took over the contract in 2022, and on 28 September 2023 the BAAINBw signed an amendment for 12 series systems and one pilot system worth about EUR 200 million net, each system with five aircraft, two ground control stations and two launch vehicles. The first series system was due in 2025, and on 1 September 2026 Rheinmetall reported that the Bundeswehr Aviation Authority had granted LUNA NG provisional type approval, allowing the Bundeswehr to fly it for training and testing.
