Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2029 (first drone 51 months post-contract) and complete by September 2030 in phased batches every six months, with 10 in flyaway condition and 21 assembled in India alongside Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) for local maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO). The allocation comprises 15-16 for the Navy (at bases like Arakkonam and Porbandar), and 8 each for the Army and Air Force. Strategically, this marks the first such armed MQ-9B sale to a non-NATO major defense partner, operationalizing India's status via foundational agreements and MTCR integration, while boosting indigenous capabilities through local assembly and weaponry integration amid regional threats. The program's progression despite delays from bureaucracy, inter-service debates, and a leased drone loss in 2024 underscores deepened US-India defense ties and modernization of India's drone fleet for high-altitude, long-endurance operations unmatched in current industry offerings.
