US DOD Blue UAS Framework

The US DOD Blue UAS Framework, launched in 2020 by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), vets and scales secure, NDAA-compliant commercial unmanned aerial system (UAS) components, software, and capabilities for military and government use, streamlining procurement and ensuring cybersecurity without foreign vulnerabilities. It remains active as of 2025, with recent evaluations in February 2025 selecting 23 platforms and 14 unique components for verification, distinguishing it from the Blue UAS List of complete systems by focusing on interoperable parts for system integrators. Strategically, it addresses operational gaps in contested environments, supports rapid deployment for missions like reconnaissance and perimeter security, and enables global Authority to Operate for DoD and allies.
