THE PROCUREMENT OF UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS)

The Department of the Army awarded Orbital Research Inc. a firm-fixed-price contract valued at approximately USD 9 million for the procurement of 1,700 drop-glide munitions, 24 unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and weapon release systems. This contract, managed by the U.S. Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal, Michigan (W56HZV-22-C-0073), funds production using Fiscal 2022 Defense-Wide procurement funds, with work performed at sites including Benning, Georgia; Picatinny, New Jersey; and Twenty-Nine Palms, California, for completion by September 2023. The UAS procurement supports Army capabilities in weaponized drone systems, aligning with ongoing innovation in advanced drone weaponization technologies.
