Program of Record Selection

The US Army has selected Teal Drones, a subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, as the vendor for a $35.1 million Program of Record contract to produce the Black Widow unmanned aircraft system (UAS) for the Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) Tranche 2 program. This rucksack-portable drone equips Transformation in Contact (TiC) units and platoons with rapidly deployable intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, featuring advanced sensors, AI software, and resilient communications to enhance soldier survivability, provide real-time intelligence, and counter emerging threats on the modern battlefield. The selection follows a multi-tranche competitive process incorporating lessons from prior fieldings, marking a key step in modernizing Army battlefield reconnaissance as an American alternative to foreign systems.
