IGF::OT::IGF SMALL, INEXPENSIVE HYPERSPECTRAL SENSOR PACKAGE FOR PENETRATING UAV PLATFORMS

The Department of the Air Force contracted Spectral Sciences, Inc. for $6.75 million to develop a compact hyperspectral imaging sensor package designed for small unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), capable of capturing imagery across visible to extended shortwave infrared wavelengths (0.4-2.5 microns) with high spectral resolution. The sensor system, weighing less than 2.4 kg with an f/1.4 aperture and 5 nm spectral resolution, addresses the Air Force's need for lightweight, high-performance remote sensing capabilities on Group 1 UAS platforms for reconnaissance and environmental monitoring missions. This development effort represents the Air Force's investment in miniaturized hyperspectral technology to enhance situational awareness and intelligence collection capabilities on constrained-payload aerial platforms.
