UAS I1 systems for the Finnish Border Guard

Procurement of UAS I1-system

The Border Guard procured unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) best suited to the Border Guard's changing operating environment. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is 1000 -2000 g and they are suitable for use in all seasons, at all times of the day and in all weather conditions. In the Border Guard, unmanned aerial vehicles are used to carry out statutory tasks in land and sea areas. Such tasks include, for example, maritime rescue tasks, crime prevention, special unit operations, and supporting other authorities, such as searching for a missing person in a land area. Unmanned aerial vehicles are also used in research, development, training and communication activities. The Border Guard's unmanned aviation is state unmanned aviation, which complies with the Aviation Act (864/2014) and Traficom OPS M1-35 Regulations on State Unmanned Aviation. In addition, the Border Guard's regulations and guidelines are followed in unmanned aircraft operations. The aim of the procurement was also to ensure a sufficient number of unmanned aircraft systems as operational needs change, and to ensure that operations are not jeopardized due to system failures or breakages.
