The Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), a U.S. Navy command under the Department of Defense, oversees the full lifecycle of sea-based strategic deterrence weapons systems, including research, development, production, sustainment, and support for submarine-launched ballistic missiles like the Trident II D5/D5LE on Ohio-class SSBNs through 2042 and integration onto Columbia-class and UK Dreadnought SSBNs. SSP also develops advanced capabilities such as the D5LE2 missile, W93/Mk7 warhead, nuclear-armed Sea-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM-N), and non-nuclear Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) hypersonic missile for submarines and surface ships to enhance full-spectrum deterrence.
