Defense Innovation Unit

The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is a United States Department of Defense organization founded in 2015 to accelerate the military's adoption of emerging commercial technologies. DIU partners across the DoD to rapidly prototype and field advanced commercial products addressing national security challenges, operating through streamlined contracting processes that deliver solutions within 12-24 months. The organization focuses on seven critical technology sectors including AI/ML, autonomy, cyber, human systems, energy, space, and emerging technologies.
