Quick decision context for procurement relevance and maturity.
The UK Ministry of Defence is procuring a technology demonstrator for the Project Mosquito LANCA (Lightweight Affordable Novel Combat Aircraft), an unmanned combat aerial vehicle capable of high-speed flight alongside fighter jets like the Typhoon and F-35, armed with missiles for air-to-air combat, surveillance, and electronic warfare. Northrop Grumman, as part of Team Mosquito led by Spirit AeroSystems Belfast, is providing Distributed Autonomy/Responsive Control technologies, advanced mesh networking, and systems engineering for design maturation, manufacturing, and flight testing of the demonstrator. This €35M Phase 2 contract advances low-cost, rapid-development uncrewed loyal wingman concepts to transform the combat battlespace, potentially deploying by the end of the decade.
