Quick decision context for procurement relevance and maturity.
The Dutch Ministry of Defence (Ministerie van Defensie) has partnered with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) to develop a low-cost, modular small unmanned aircraft system (Mini UAS or SUAS) for multi-role intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, capable of carrying various payloads. The agreement, signed on October 16, 2025, involves Dutch firm VDL Defentec for manufacturing and aims to establish UAS production capabilities in the Netherlands and US, with first flight expected by end of 2025 and low-rate initial production in 2026. This strategic collaboration strengthens transatlantic ties, boosts Dutch technical know-how, and supports NATO and Ukraine defense efforts.
