The drone detection system developed in the course of the self-financed MODEAS project is to be supplemented by an additional sensor that can detect several small flying drones (with dimensions from approx. 0.3 to approx. 1 meter) even from a distance of several kilometers. Based on current knowledge, only a special radar that can determine the direction and distance to flying drones in real time comes into question as such a sensor. Based on this, a fine classification of the drone can be initiated with the help of further MODEAS sensor technology, but also situation-appropriate countermeasures. The horizontal detection angle must be at least 180 o (360 o would be optimal). The radar must be weatherproof and operate with radiation intensities that are not harmful to health if one stays near the radar for a longer period of time.
