Quick decision context for procurement relevance and maturity.
The P.2HH Programme Support contract for €766 million was Italy's Ministry of Defence acquisition request for 20 Piaggio Aerospace P.2HH Hammerhead unmanned aerial systems (surveillance drones). The P.2HH is a multirole UAV designed for civil and military applications including border patrol, humanitarian operations, disaster relief, and general surveillance. The aircraft features a larger fuselage than its predecessor (the P.1HH), composite wings for extended endurance, and can carry up to 1,500 pounds of fuel and equipment with a stated loitering time goal of 30 hours. The contract represented Italy's effort to acquire an advanced surveillance capability, with the Italian Air Force as the launch customer for this larger version of the Hammerhead drone.
